American Trails names Florida BEST Trails state
We did it! I heard a little buzz about this while I was out on the trail last week and indeed it’s official: Florida was named the BEST TRAILS STATE at the 2008 National Trails Symposium in Little Rock, Arkansas, last month. Key to the award is our own Office of Greenways and Trails, who tirelessly work to promote trails and cultivate relationships between landowners and a variety of trail user groups statewide.
I’ve been in many state-level meetings where we’ve marveled at the depth and breadth of Florida’s many trail systems, from our greenways and blueways to our own National Scenic Trail, the Florida Trail; the new Florida Circumnavigational Paddling Trail, our hundreds of miles of paved bike paths, mountain bike trails, equestrian trails, more than 2,500 miles of hiking trails, and our tourism trails such as the Great Florida Birding Trail.
C’mon down and play this winter, America: we rock!
