Hunting season kicks off Friday
Break out the blaze orange: deer hunting season is here! If you’re headed out on a hike in any National Forest or Wildlife Management Area, it’s essential that you wear a bright orange vest or otherwise make sure the upper part of your body isn’t mistaken for a deer. This weekend’s the kickoff, so it will be especially busy in the woods.
If you’re looking for somewhere you won’t encounter hunters, head for your nearest Florida State Park or go backpacking on the Cross Florida Greenway or the Florida Trail around Lake Okeechobee. Most county parks prohibit hunting, too.

That’s a good safety message!
