Out along SR 24 on the way to Cedar Key, the Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve (Hike #9 in 50 Hikes in North Florida) is the northernmost spot I’ve seen Florida scrub-jays. Good news for the scrub-jays and other species that thrive in the coastal scrub: The Nature Conservancy completed a deal to preserve more of the rare habitat contiguous with the existing park in an area that had been platted for a subdivision. For more information, read the press release from The Nature Conservancy.

Sandy,
How wonderful is this !! Every trip I make down to Florida to see family and hike, I remember the hikes I’ve made where the Florida Bluejay was a presence, and how perfectly miraculous it is to have one visit up close and personal…..I’ve been a member of The Nature Conservancy for years,so I feel I’m a small part of this acquisition.
