From the junction of SR 17 and CR 630 in Frostproof, drive north 3.8 miles to Cody Villa Rd. Turn left at the sign for Crooked Prairie Preserve. Follow the road to where it makes a sharp right; turn right and make the next left into the preserve, before the subdivision. The large parking area is gated after hours. Make sure you check the posted hours so you are not locked behind the gate at night.
The preserve is open from before dawn to dusk, making it great for birdwatching. Dogs are permitted. All of the trails are very open, so make sure you cover up from the sun. A large portalet serves as a restroom near the trailhead. Primitive camping is allowed if you contact the Environmental Lands office in advance for a permit. Maps should be available at the trailhead, but you can also print one from the Environmental Lands website.
