Hiking near Lake Delancy
Win a prize for going on a hike!
Granted, our weather isn’t cooperating with the joyful launch into the best month for hiking in Florida, but keep an eye on your local forecast and see if this weekend offers an opportunity for you to get out and hike! It’s OUR time of year, when hunting season is over and the weather is cool enough that there are few insects and few reasons – except cold fronts with heavy rain – to stay indoors.
I challenge you do to at least one hike every week this month, and more if you can spare the time.
Post your photos and blog about your hikes on our forums at http://www.myfloridahikes.com, which are free to join. The most entertaining hiking report posted this month – as judged by me – will win a signed set of two of my out-of-print Florida Trail books, now collectibles: Along the Florida Trail and the Florida Trail Official Guide. I don’t care where you hike or for how long – a tenth of a mile to a four-day backpacking trip – I’m just looking forward to reading your adventures and mis-adventures!
It will help me if you put the word Contest: at the beginning of each of your blog posts for this contest. The contest ends Feb 28 and I’ll choose a winner that day. Thanks for participating!

Didn’t even know it was Florida Hiking month and I did two in the first week! Thanks for all of your inspiring short hikes, I keep my hiking bag in my car and grab a quick one whenever I can.
Two recent finds – Lake June in Winter Scrub and Ortona Mounds.
