Trailhead at Carraway Cutoff? 2007/10/23 21:02 Karma: 3
I was under the impression that there is a trailhead at Carraway Cutoff where the FT transitions from ANF to SMNWR. I don't see it on the FT map though. Was I wrong? Was there one there that's been moved?

Volunteers built/renovated something like 9 new trailheads in Apalachicola NF this summer. It happened too late to show up on the newest FTA map set ...but they are listed in the last Footprint and we'll put them up on the website sometime soon.

It's marked on the old FT maps, the ones from '99. I finally found my old copy of map 10 to double check my memory, and it's definitely on there. There's a trailhead shown on US 319 just below where it splits off from US 98, headed for Sopchoppy. It's not in the companion guide, though, nor on the newer maps. I could run down and look to see if it's there, but I was hoping someone could save me the trip.

Hey Ardsgaine,I cycled by there on my trip to the ANF.I made note of where the trail crossed the road headed down to Sopchoppy from 98(I assume this is 319).I don't recall much if any formal trailhead but then again on bike I am not necessarily looking at parking capability just that there is woods or somewhere to hide my bike while I hike. And as Sandra noted there may have been some work since this spring.Sorry this isn't more helpful.

Thanks, rwtb! I was just trying to work out the logistics for an overnighter between US319 and FR329. It looks like we're getting a ride to our starting point, so a parking spot won't be necessary after all.

Good thing I still have all my maps for the ANF or I would never have remembered that 329 is the fireroad that forms the southern boundry of Bradwell Bay.I hiked the part of 329 bordering Bradwell as part of my Bradwell circuit and I rode my bike in on the part from 375 to Bradwell so I covered that entire road(and it is one of my favorites). Should be a great hike and I still hope to get back up there sooner rather than later. And,looking at the FTA material I still have for ANF ,it is indicating a trailhead with parking on Carraway Cutoff Road about 1/4 mile south of 319 so that explains why I didn't see a trailhead.
