Increased military training activity on Eglin Air Force Base may result in sudden and sporadic closures of the Florida Trail between US 331 and RR 208.
LOCATION: Tate's Hell State Forest [29.809317, -84.729067] 2.7 miles west of Carabelle along US 98 LOOP - 1.6 miles - Easy LINEAR - 4 miles - Moderate
NATURE LOOP:Starting off from the parking area, follow the orange blazes to the blue-blazed loop. As you walk the loop clockwise, you'll wander through sand pine scrub and saw palmetto stands, passing distant cypress domes and titi swamps. Keep alert on the return trip as it's easy to mistake the firebreak for the trail: take the narrow soft right. LINEAR: Since my visit, the trail has been extended 4 miles to reach a secondary trailhead along SR 65 to the west of the US 98 trailhead. As soon as I have a chance to scout it, I'll add detais!
