Jetboil recalls certain stoves

Jetboil recallI just learned that Jetboil announced a recall of any of their stoves (both PCS and GCS models) that have a certain type of valve they call the “B Style Valve.” This valve is rectangular and unstamped (see photo). According to the announcement:

We have determined independently to undertake this process after receiving reports and returned units from a very limited number of end users who have experienced leaking gas and subsequent ignition of the gas leak. No injuries or property damage have been reported by these users.

PCS and GCS systems utilizing the A and C style valves continue to be fully safe and functional. No Helios systems are affected by the recall.

For more information about the recall and how to compare your stove to the one in the photo, visit the Jetboil website. I checked my new stove, and thank goodness, it does NOT have to be sent back!

  1. As much as campers double and triple check their gear, its good to have a heads up that their may be a defect. Last thing any hiker needs it to find that out in the middle of nowhere a days hike out.

You’ll know if you have one of these defective stoves. Of course, all PCS stoves with the B valve are covered, and it’s only a certain batch out of that style of valves that are affected. The flame adjustment will be all wonky, and if you press hard on the knob gas leaks out a little bit. Not a good thing!
