Leave it to the Loxahatchee Chapter of the Florida Trail Association to soldier on with a monthly hike, always the first Sunday of every month, at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Even in summer! It’s how I became acquainted with the East Loop when I first researched the “50 Hikes” series, and how I’ve made good friends over the years. The monthly hike starts promptly after the park gates open at 8 AM – pay your entrance fee and meet in the parking lot directly to the right as you pull into the park.
Here’s what you’ll experience on the East Loop at Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
It’s not the shady experience it was prior to the 2004-2005 hurricanes – it’s no wimpy hike, with serious hills and slogs through sugar sand – but it’s rewarding, especially in summer, for the amazing wildflowers along the walk.
