It’s been more than a decade since I lived out of a backpack for more than a week, and the experience brings back echoes of those rambles through Europe and Asia. We’re not quite to the AT yet – soon! – as my authorly duties have us living out of our packs in hotel rooms. We plopped the contents out on the spare bed last night to shift and re-sort the shared load, ensuring we made good use of the spaces in the packs. Between us, we guess 60 lbs of gear, food and water. I’m sure that load will lighten as we learn what we aren’t using and can toss. One more talk for me to give today and we’re ready to roam!
