Manatee munching palm tree at Blue Springs

Every winter, hundreds of manatees converge at Blue Spring Run near Deland, as do the folks who want to see them up close in the wild. Here’s a clip from a visit I made last weekend while working on the new edition of “50 Hikes.” I loved the commentary from the two ladies next to me!

  1. The wife and I went camping in my VW in 2007 shortly after a tropical storm came through. We couldn’t go swimming because of the fallen trees and no manatees. But it was during the late summer, so…

    I love Blue Springs it is such a beautiful place it is especially great to visit while the manatees are around.
