Memorial Day Weekend: Our Outdoor Recreation Options

Take a break from hiking!Florida’s hiking season is upside down from the rest of the USA, so while everyone else is gearing up to get outdoors, we’ve turned the boil back down to a simmer. That doesn’t mean we give up! In summer:

  • Hike between daybreak and noon to take advantage of cooler temperatures
  • Use plenty of bug spray and sunscreen
  • Take breaks and keep hydrated
  • Stick with short hikes, less than 5 miles in length
  • Think about beach hikes (breezy) or urban / boardwalk hikes (family fun)
  • Take a hike and a swim: hike to a spring!

Here are some more suggestions I’ve laid out for hikers in the past
Summer Hiking

I’ll be sharing shorter hikes throughout the summer months with my Hike-A-Week subscribers.

PS. Don’t forget … this is the time of year that Florida hikers take to the water in their kayaks!
