Florida’s hiking season is upside down from the rest of the USA, so while everyone else is gearing up to get outdoors, we’ve turned the boil back down to a simmer. That doesn’t mean we give up! In summer:
- Hike between daybreak and noon to take advantage of cooler temperatures
- Use plenty of bug spray and sunscreen
- Take breaks and keep hydrated
- Stick with short hikes, less than 5 miles in length
- Think about beach hikes (breezy) or urban / boardwalk hikes (family fun)
- Take a hike and a swim: hike to a spring!
Here are some more suggestions I’ve laid out for hikers in the past
Summer Hiking
I’ll be sharing shorter hikes throughout the summer months with my Hike-A-Week subscribers.
PS. Don’t forget … this is the time of year that Florida hikers take to the water in their kayaks!
