In 2008, I learned podcasting and went on to produce a series of podcasts about Florida Trail segments for the Florida Trail Association.
Episodes of “Inside the Florida Trail”
That fall, I launched the Florida Hikes! podcast on iTunes. While it only lasted five episodes – mainly because it’s a lot of work compared to writing! – I present them for your listening pleasure here.

Episode 1: Lyonia Preserve – A virtual hike through Lyonia Preserve, the one place in Florida you’re guaranteed to see a Florida scrub-jay.
Episode 2, Juniper Springs – A walk down the boardwalk from Juniper Springs to Fern Hammock Springs on another armchair hike.
Episode 3, Bradwell Bay – The day that kicked off my Florida hiking career – a fun and crazy adventure that, after I wrote about it, led to magazine articles, book offers, hiking-related jobs … and this website!
Episode 4, Gold Head Branch - Spending New Years in the field walking the Florida Trail through Gold Head Branch – Shortcut & Navigator talk their way down the trail.
Episode 5, Green Cay Wetlands – A morning walk down the boardwalks past other walkers and lots of birds, with comments from the driving force behind the beloved Green Cay Wetlands, Ted Winsberg.
I have hundreds of audio files from my research on hiking trails around Florida, since I use a digital recorder to take my notes when hiking. If you or someone you know may want to help me turn those into downloadable resources – I’ve had some nice comments from now-blind hikers who enjoyed the above virtual walks in the woods – do drop me a line and let me know.
