All five of Florida’s water management districts encourage hikers to enjoy their public lands. In most cases, water management districts do not establish hiking-only footpaths; they create multi-use trails by blazing existing forest roads and jeep trails on their land. Only those WMD lands where hiking is the primary use are listed in the book. There are no usage fees for WMD lands, but in general, groups of 7 or more who intend to camp together must arrange for a camping permit in advance. For more information on WMD recreation, contact the regional WMD for a recreation guide.
