Hi, I'm Sandra Friend, Florida's hiking expert. I've wandered the trails of Florida since I was a kid, and have spent the last decade canvassing what the Sunshine State has to offer for hikers of all abilities - from the wheelchair-bound and those with small children to backpackers looking for a real challenge on the Florida Trail.

I've written eight books to hiking in Florida, and I continue to get out and hike regularly to explore new trails and update old ones, adding new content to my archives - and this website - on a weekly basis. Florida Hikes is a virtual guidebook, and your subscription opens up the details.

Here's what you'll get with your Florida Hikes! subscription

Once you log in as a subscriber, you'll automatically see all of the extra details available for hikes posted on the website, including guidebook-style narratives and mileage charts I gathered during my research trips using a measuring wheel and/or GPS. If you are an annual subscriber, you'll also be able to download any related GPX or KML files I've collected for those hikes and use them in your GPS.

Annual subscribers receive a Hike-A-Week in your inbox. It's a full writeup of one hike in Florida, usually a trail I've just recently visited, with full narrative, directions, maps, and links to photos of the trail. Use it to build your own guidebook! Here's a sample of what you'll receive each week.

All subscribers can explore the Hike-A-Week archives (launched November 2008) to download virtual guidebook pages and add even more hikes to their own collections.

In addition, annual subscribers have access to a substantial database of GPS mapping details for many hikes not yet posted on the website. There are more than 400 files in the current inventory, including popular segments of the Florida Trail.
