One of the hikes that sticks in my memory from when I was under ten years old is the Pine Land Trail at Everglades National Park. It’s not very long, but it’s certainly diverse … and on my last visit, there were tree snails in the tropical trees! Take a virtual walk in the woods and learn more about the Pine Land Trail.

I have a holiday with the guys booked for next year with a UK tour operator. We’re staying at Windsor Hills in Orlando. Instead of all that nonsense that younger folk get up to riding rollercoasters, we plan to rent a shack in the forest for a few days, trek the Everglades, sink some beers, play some cards and wrestle gators. Kidding. I am actually looking for some decent trails to take to locate the best wildlife indigenous to Florida and this is the best blog I have found. Anyone recommend the ultimate trail for 3 guys to take as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure?
Depends on what time of year and what your interests are: birding? Lots of gators? Ready to go backpacking, or just some rugged day hikes will do the trick? It’s a long ways between Orlando and the Everglades … about 6 hours each way … Florida is a lot bigger than most folks think. Give me a few more details and I’ll blog some suggestions for you.
Hey Sandra
6 hours, eh? I did not know it was that far. You can make it across the whole South of England in that time (breaking a few speeding violations on the way). Myself and friends are planning this trip as we really love savouring the real destinational vibe. We have been to Corsica, Iceland and the Black Forest, Germany in the past. We cannot come all the way to Florida and not see any alligators and wild cats. The more rugged the better. Something that by the end of the day, we’ll be completely shattered from – yet with a great sense in satisfaction. We are looking at the second week in June 2010. We have up to 5/6 days allocated for Everglades, so that gives us plently of time for adventure.
June in the Everglades is wild on its own! Okay, give me a few days to think up a wild adventure for you … there is so much to do in Florida’s wilds, even near Orlando.
