Where the mosquitos are

The fragile nature of Florida Bay – especially in the impending danger of the oil spill – has me pondering the various access points where hikers can see the bay from a trail. The Keys have a handful of hikes out to the bay, but the mainland only a few. Here’s one where mosquitoes are guaranteed year-round, but you might see a flamingo.

  1. These photos are really great! The keys are soo pretty! I always pictured them as islands with no trees. I need to make time to get down there.

I have yet to make it all the way to the end of Snake Bite trail…no matter what I’m wearing or the time of year, the skeeters drive me back after 1/2 a mile!

I find the best time to go to the Park is in the winter just after a cold front has gone through. Unless it is really cold there will still be bugs but they are minimal, especially in a stiff breeze.

  4. How I miss my Flamingo days but mosquitoes I can live without. Although it was fun saying telling potential visitors there are 43 different species but only the females bite :)
